This is pain down the Tibia (shin bone).  This can be a gradual onset or can be a sudden twinge of pain.  Shin Splints develop in people who do repetitive exercises such as running, football, hockey or gymnastics.

Shin Splints symptoms include tenderness, aching or sharp pain along the front of your lower leg.  This is usually worse whilst participating in activities.  Wearing the correct footwear whilst running/walking will help with this condition.

Orthotics will help to realign the lower limb.  A course of physiotherapy with tissue massage, or surgery, may be considered to release the muscle, if serious.
