Pain in the ball of the foot, which is often described by patients as like walking on pebbles.  The pain is particularly worsened whilst walking or standing.

A number of different issues can cause this condition, such as badly fitting footwear, being overweight and certain medical conditions like arthritis.  People who wear high heels are more susceptable to this, which will put increased pressure on the metatarsal heads (toe joints).

Wearing appropriate footwear and the use of cushioning orthoses/insoles will help greatly with this condition.
